The year 2017 was one of those years that can be marked as the inception of an era which gave a completely new perspective of what a smartphone could be in the near future. Then, for the first time there came the intimidating mobile phone design from Samsung in the smartphone series Galaxy S8/S8+ followed by major mobile phone brands like Apple, Google, Xiaomi, etc. While most of us speculated that Samsung will be the first to implant fingerprint sensor into the display to its Galaxy S8/S8+ which was not possible at that time then our concentration changed to Apple's iPhone X which again rumoured to accommodate similar tech, Vivo is the first mobile phone manufacturer in the world which made it possible to place fingerprint sensor below the screen of the smartphone. Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are the new anticipated flagship smartphone installments with exciting new features and high performance. Samsung is reportedly working on these new sets equipped with futuristic technology, which were not finished in time for the Galaxy S8, S8+ and Note 8. Lets see if these new smartphones are ready in time.

Several leaks, rumours and reveals have made clear that these new phones will be almost same in design part from the last years S8 and S8+, while the back side of the phone is little different. The difference is in the placement of fingerprint sensor, which is placed below the cameras this time thankfully avoiding the smudge problem that users were unhappy in the Galaxy S8 devices, dual camera system first time in the S series smartphones and thinner bezels. While it is expected that Samsung will follow the trend just like Apple did with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus; and iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus,i.e., S8 will get single lens camera while S8+ will get dual camera found just like in Note 8 but the alignment of the camera will be vertical (expected to be upgraded here).

Yet another render confirms that the placement of the flash and sensors like heart-rate sensor will also change and these will be placed to the left side of the camera.

Apart from the sensors and design changes, this new flagship device is said to come up with new Soc which are Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (for the US market) and Exynos 9810 (for the rest of world). Both of these Soc are being manufactured by Samsung for their devices.

Galaxy S9 and S9+ will come up with different RAM and storage options. Few rumors have suggested that S9 will come up with 4 GB RAM with 64 GB or 4 GB RAM with 128 GB internal storage option while S9+ is said to come up with 6 GB RAM coupled with 64 GB, 6 GB RAM with 128 GB or 6 GB Ram with 256 GB storage options. Another limited edition variant of the Galaxy S9+ is said to come up with 6 GB RAM with 512 GB in only a few select markets. Following up the release pattern of the last year's galaxy devices, these select markets can be China and South Korea. It will most probably sport Android Oreo (android 8.0) Honestly, I wish this special edition variant to be launched in the other markets so that I can buy it too!

Well, new chipset of this phone does have several new features and it is being expected to give a tough competition to Apple's A11 Bionic, which is yet to be seen, but Snapdragon 845 and Exynos 9810 does have dedicated processing units for the bio metrics. This unit is being called as Secure Processing Unit (SPU) which claims to have 'vault like security'. Along with all this, these Soc are also going to be equipped with new Qualcomm's X20 modem which is going to offer speeds of Cat. 18 modem, boosting the download speeds (up to 1.2 Gbps) and upload speeds (up to 200 Mbps). Snapdragon 845 have the capability to capture Ultra HD 4k footage at 60 fps, meanwhile Samsung's Exynos 9810 will have the capability of stabilising the same footage at 120 fps. So, definitely, Exynos user's will have a plus side.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 said to be debuted with Galaxy S9 and S9+ in US.

Also, Samsung and Qualcomm, both have promised improved AI which will have similar aspects which we saw in the iPhone,i.e., Samsung this time has also revealed about the facial recognition feature similar to the FaceID in the iPhone X. This will also mark improvement in the fields of Virtual and Augmented reality, which will in turn open up the gateways for the developers and AR and VR fans.

The device is said to maintain screen aspect ratio of 18.5 : 9 which was rumored to be increased at 21 : 9. Also, Galaxy S9 and S9+ will have screen size of 5.8" and 6.2" respectively and these both will be available in variety of colour options.

Unlike last time when Samsung launched Galaxy S8 and S8+, buyers and several fans had to waited for long and the devices were launched in April, Samsung will launch S9 and S9+ in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) which will held in the last week of February. According to the word on the street, Samsung has already begun to mass produce Galaxy S9 and S9+. Also, there is no word about the pricing of these devices yet, it is speculated that S9 will start retailing at about 849$ while S9+ will start at about 939$ while the 512 GB storage option is expected to price above 1000$.

Well, S9 and S9+ will be almost identical to the S8 and S8+, while there are other smartphones competing against S9 and S9+, the actual competition is yet to be seen.
